Business Manager - Primary School

BS16, Bristol

Start Date: Immediate

We are seeking an experienced, proactive and highly organised Business Manager to join our primary school in BS16, Bristol, starting immediately. This is a full time role with responsibility for the strategic and operational management of the school's business and support services.

This is a key leadership position, working closely with the Headteacher and Governing Body to ensure the school is financially secure, compliant, and well run, allowing staff to focus on delivering excellent education.

Key Responsibilities

Finance & Budget Management

  • Lead on the preparation, monitoring and control of the school budget
  • Ensure effective financial planning, forecasting and value for money
  • Manage payroll, purchasing, invoicing and contracts
  • Prepare financial reports for the Headteacher and Governors
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, audits and ESFA requirements

Human Resources

  • Manage all HR administration including recruitment, contracts and staffing records
  • Oversee absence management, appraisals and staff wellbeing processes
  • Liaise with external HR and payroll providers
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and safeguarding checks

Premises & Health and Safety

  • Oversee the management of school premises and site staff
  • Ensure health & safety compliance, risk assessments and statutory checks
  • Manage maintenance, contractors and capital projects

Administration & Compliance

  • Lead the administration and office functions of the school
  • Ensure GDPR, policies and statutory returns are compliant and up to date
  • Act as a key point of contact for external agencies and service providers

Strategic Support

  • Contribute to whole school strategy and development planning
  • Support the Headteacher and Governors with decision making and reporting
About You
  • Proven experience in a school business management, finance or operations role
  • Strong financial management and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • High level of discretion, professionalism and attention to detail
  • Experience in a school or education setting is highly desirable
