Overview

Since 1870, Cambridge Center for Adult Education has been dedicated to providing the widest range of high-quality, low-cost learning opportunities for the diverse adults of greater Boston. At a time when digital and virtual experiences have become omnipresent, Cambridge Center for Adult Education (CCAE) remains deeply committed to place-based, person-to-person, experiential learning. CCAE is a nonprofit organization with an annual operating budget of $2.5 million and a staff of 15 FTEs. We run nearly 2,000 classes over 4 terms, taught by over 200 professionals who are experts in their chosen fields. Job Summary: The Cambridge Center for Adult Education, located in Harvard Square, is currently seeking part-time instructors to teach a birding class for adult learners, beginning in our summer 2026 term. This listing is specifically for a birding instructor, however, we are very open to other science and nature class proposals as well. If you are interested in teaching a specific class that is not listed below, please include a brief course description in your letter of interest.

We are seeking to introduce a range of science and nature classes, including:

  • Bird Watching
  • Nature Exploration/Foraging
  • Zoology/Wildlife
  • Oceanic & Coral Reef
  • Native Plant Identification

The hourly rate begins at $25+/hr, commensurate with experience. Instructors can also take one free class per term (up to $300).

Qualifications
  • Demonstrable experience and success in the science & nature sector.
  • Experience as an educator/instructor.
  • An ability to engage a diverse demographic of adult learners.
  • A relevant degree, training, or experience in a science or nature related educational field is preferred.
