We are looking for a competent and versatile individual with experience in Cellular Pathology to provide technical support to the histology service. To be suitable for this role you must have a degree in Biomedical Science. A completed and assessed IBMS registration portfolio and state registration with the HCPC is preferred, but there may be an opportunity for the right individual to complete a portfolio under the Agenda for Change, Annex 21 provision.

Main duties of the jobThe post holder is responsible for carrying out work in the Histology section of the Cellular Pathology Department. The post holder will be registered with the Healthcare Professions Council. The working hours will be 37.5 hours per week over standard core Agenda for Change hours.
About usBetween 2021 and 2024 the Partnership undertook a complex transformation programme to establish a single network of laboratories, underpinned by a single Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and single Quality Management System (QMS).
The Partnership has a main hub laboratory at the Royal London Hospital and Essential Service Laboratories (ESL) as a minimum at the six other hospital sites served by the Partnership. The Partnership has three operational divisions:
- Blood Sciences including Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry
- Microbiology and Virology
- Cellular Pathology and Cancer Diagnostics
The 2024/25 total operating costs across the Partnership were c. £121m per annum with a workforce establishment of circa. 860 WTE.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential- IBMS Accredited BSc Biomedical Science degree
- Completed registration portfolio Registration with the HCPC as a biomedical scientist
- Proven experience of working in a Cellular Pathology laboratory
- Experience of working with Laboratory Information Management System
- Experience of UKAS accreditation
- Experience of staff training
- Experience of digital pathology
- IT and keyboard skills to allow operation of Windows-based software and word processing.
- Able to follow standard operating procedures
- Able to troubleshoot routine laboratory issues
- Practical experience of a range of diagnostic pathology techniques
- Proven practical experience using diagnostic pathology laboratory equipment
- Able to work to deadlines with accuracy
- Able to work under pressure
- Good hand eye co ordination
- Up to date knowledge of advances in histopathology
- Familiar with laboratory Health and Safety issues
- Knowledge of Quality Management and the processes involved
- Able to work independently and work within a team of mixed skills and abilities
- Able to organise and prioritise own work activities
- Proficiency in both written and verbal communication, with the ability to build strong, respectful relationships
- Ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
