Job Description

The post holder will be a part of a team of Biomedical receptionists delivering support services to departments within Pathology support unit (PSU). The post holder will work on reception booking for patients arriving for their blood tests, process outcomes, and book patient appointments. The post holder will undertake technical and administrative tasks to ensure reliable service delivery.

Main duties of the job

Mainly working in the Blood Taking Unit (BTU) reception to check in patients from the appointment booking system and to use CAMIS and ICE systems. Cover reception for other Biomedical areas as required. Update Swiftqueue booking system for 'drop-in' patients by booking appointments and noting where the referral for the blood test originated. Print ICE blood request forms prior to clinic. Assist the supervisor with varied admin tasks, such as filing and ad hoc requests.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist with the training of trainee staff and perform competency assessment documentation.
  • Attend all mandatory and statutory training.
  • Participate and engage in service meetings.
  • Ensure that the workplace and workbenches are kept clean and tidy.
  • Maintain a flexible approach to the post, rapidly assimilating changes in workload, patterns, and requirements.
  • Participate in the shift system as required, which includes some rotational weekend working.
  • Help assist in the lab, if required; training will be provided, and you will be competency signed off.
  • Help assist with answering the appointment line phone calls on the diverse Pathology Lines (Pathology enquiries and BTU appointment lines) to respond to the needs of Pathology users, if required.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Good computer skills.
  • NHS experience.
  • Knowledge of pathology and of sciences.
  • Experience of working in a customer service environment.
Educations, Training and Qualifications
  • GCSE qualification or equivalent.
  • Science GCSE.
  • Trained on CAMIS and ICE system.
