Bid Manager - RAS

The Bid Manager is a key role within the Naval Handling UK Global Sales Team, reporting to the Director Naval Sales. In this role, you will collaborate closely with different areas of the business, including engineering and procurement, to ensure products are cost-effective and profitable.
The Bid Manager should have strong communication skills to work with and influence key departments and stakeholders, including providing up-to-date costing and pricing information to the sales team. The role also involves reading drawings and technical documents and using computer software to prepare estimates and finalise bids.
This role requires strong project management skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate with various teams to deliver high-quality proposals. The Bid Manager ensures bids are compelling, compliant, and aligned with the company's goals and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and update cost schedules following Company Procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Support the Align 2.0 process and establish communication networks for bids among sales, engineering, procurement, and projects teams.
- Manage OEM bids from start to finish, scheduling activities to meet deadlines.
- Assist in compiling bid documents with the Director Naval Sales.
- Chair bid review and approval meetings, documenting actions and priorities.
- Process costs for materials, maintaining up-to-date cost data for standard products in collaboration with procurement.
- Support engineering in exploring lower-cost solutions through cost data.
- Contribute to R&D initiatives by preparing cost reports for labor, materials, and testing.
- Support cost data needs for quality, warranty, and insurance claims.
- Standardise and document estimating and bid management processes.
- Coordinate data handling within the RAS team.
- Provide estimating information to the Naval Handling UK team.
- Liaise with auditors as necessary.
- Undertake training to improve estimating skills.
- Perform other tasks as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualification with experience managing multi-customer sales campaigns.
- Strong negotiation skills and understanding of contractual terms.
- Knowledge of the marine industry, especially naval markets.
- Familiarity with shipbuilding practices and product ranges.
- Engineering background with the ability to communicate technically.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365.
- Legal right to work in the UK.
This role requires BPSS security screening and possibly additional Security Clearance due to work with the MoD.
