Teaching Assistant - SEMH Provision

Location: Wigan
Contract: Full-Time, Monday to Friday
Hours: 8:30am - 3:30pm
Pay: £95-£110 per day
Start Date: January

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant / Behaviour Support Worker to join a fantastic SEMH provision in Wigan. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with secondary-aged students who have complex emotional and behavioural needs, many of whom are on EHCPs and may be disengaged from mainstream education.

You will work 1:1 with pupils, supporting their learning, emotional regulation, and social development in a safe and nurturing environment. The role requires patience, resilience, and the ability to stay calm when managing challenging behaviour, including both verbal and physical aggression.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom support across core subjects

  • Work 1:1 with students to deliver tailored support

  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs

  • Encourage participation, focus, and confidence in lessons

  • Assist the class teacher with planning, resources, and routines

  • Contribute to a calm, safe, and inclusive school environment

  • Support pupils with emotional regulation and challenging behaviours

Who We're Looking For
  • Experience supporting children or young people (school, tutoring, youth work, care, coaching all welcome)

  • Proactive, patient, and adaptable approach

  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

  • Confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner

Teaching Assistant experience is beneficial but not essential. We also welcome applications from graduates and career changers looking for a rewarding role in education.
