TalentBoard is recruiting Behaviour Mentors to support a range of forward-thinking primary and secondary schools across Chester.
This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who are calm, patient and committed to making a genuine difference in the lives of children who need additional emotional or behavioural support. Whether you've worked in mental health, youth work, sports coaching, SEN support or other pastoral roles, your skills could be exactly what our Chester schools are looking for.
What you'll be doing as a Behaviour Mentor
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a crucial role in helping pupils manage their emotions, re-engage with learning and succeed in school. Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 behaviour support for pupils with SEMH needs, anxiety, low self-esteem or behavioural challenges
- Building trusted, positive relationships that help pupils feel safe, listened to and understood
- Supporting pupils through difficult moments using calm, trauma-informed and de-escalation approaches
- Helping pupils follow behaviour plans and personalised support strategies
- Working alongside class teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams to maintain consistency and progress
- Encouraging positive decision-making, resilience and emotional regulation skills
- Supporting behaviour within the classroom, intervention spaces and break/lunchtime environments
- Helping pupils set achievable goals and celebrating their progress
What we're looking for
You do not need previous school experience to apply. We welcome applicants from backgrounds such as:
- Youth work or mentoring
- Mental health support
- Care or residential work
- Sports coaching
- Community work
- SEN or behaviour support
- Security roles where de-escalation is essential
We are looking for people who can demonstrate:
- Excellent communication and empathy
- Resilience, calmness and patience in challenging situations
- A positive, restorative approach to behaviour
- Confidence working with pupils who may present disengagement, frustration or emotional distress
- The ability to build strong, supportive relationships
- A genuine desire to help young people grow and achieve
An Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply for one) is required.
