The Divisional Professional Lead Nurse/AHP/DCP is committed to delivering excellence in clinically led services. The main focus of this role is to be the professional lead for support services to ensure that patients receive high quality care and experience when using services within the Dental Division. The post holder will also represent Nursing/AHP/DCP and be the professional voice across the division.
Along with the Senior Management Team of the division and other Divisional AHP/Nursing Leads and the BCHC Trust wide AHP Professional Leads to develop and implement the BCHC Strategy for AHPs-reflecting the national AHP strategy. Each Divisional AHP Lead along with their DDNT will be responsible for the delivery of an agreed theme within the Strategy across all Divisions and the delivery of the whole Strategy across their division.
Main duties of the jobTo provide advice and guidance to other Nursing/AHP/DCP staff ensuring they have access to professional and clinical support from their own profession. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own professional activities. To maintain and improve on clinical skills. Provide clinical leadership, including supervision, to allied healthcare therapy staff working in the Dental Services Division in order to promote high standards of clinical practice across the service. To ensure that Nursing/AHP/DCP staff have the optimum skill mix and a career pathway to promote the highest service quality and cost effectiveness now and into the future. Support Group Management where required in ensuring the safe staffing requirements are achieved across all areas on a daily basis and oversee the development and completion of the monthly therapy Safe Staffing report to send to Divisional Director of Nursing & Therapies for final sign off. Maintain and improve all aspects of clinical governance, evidence based practice and quality assurance in designated areas, including identifying and implementing clinical research, audit and data collection priorities. To ensure that the service responds to Trust, KPI and national initiatives and policy within the framework of clinical governance including clinical effectiveness, evidence based healthcare, managing clinical risk and, research and development issues.

To have overall accountability and responsibility for the provision of a high quality support services within the Division
To have overall responsibility for the workforce plan, recruitment and retention of all bands of Nursing/AHP/DCP staff across the division, ensuring their on-going professional development.
To lead the teams in setting standards of performance and practice taking into account the requirements of the Trust and external performance targets.
To develop and compile a yearly professional AHP/DCP plan.
To participate within the senior divisional on call roster, covering weekends and bank holidays.
Professional Responsibility
Registered by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or General Dental Council (GDC)Registered and abides by the code of conduct of the relevant professional body.Participate in a relevant Continuing Professional Development scheme and ensure that the criteria are met.
Person Specification Qualifications Training- Registered Nurse/Dental Nurse
- Post graduate qualification at Master's level or equivalent or Post Registration Dental Nursing Qualification
- BSc degree in nursing studies or Diploma in Dental Nursing (or equivalent)
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or General Dental Council
- Evidence of completion of INSPIRE leadership programme or other Leadership qualification/programme
- Demonstrable evidence of robust and extended continuous professional development
- Qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience in Quality Improvement methodologies (QI)
- High level of competence in the delivery of teaching material and an ability to use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
- High level of skill in leadership and innovation.
- Ability to develop, manage and participate in professional and academic networks external to the Trust
- High level of skills to lead on and participate in research
