This role represents a great opportunity for a skilled individual to join a dedicated team of network engineers in supporting and maintaining the trusts network infrastructure. As one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country we are looking for a flexible, well organised and highly motivated individual who can work autonomously or a team and has line management responsibility for a small team to deliver high quality infrastructure services aligned with the trust's digital strategy. The trust has recently completed refreshing it's core network (Nov 2025) and has just commenced a Wireless infrastructure refresh which will be ongoing throughout 2026.
Based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham but support all 4 hospital sites and remote support for community/satellite sites
Main duties of the jobThe Network Team is responsible for maintaining a resilient, secure and high-performance network infrastructure. Effective and efficient incident, problem and change management is essential and liaising with other trust teams, suppliers and external agencies as required.
Advanced experience as a network engineer gained while working in a complex enterprise environment is essential for this role.

Person Specification Qualifications- IT or Technology degree or equivalent
- Additional specialist knowledge and or IT industry qualification (e.g., Cisco or IT specialist certification) acquired whilst employed in an IT role at a large organisation.
- ITIL Foundation or Practitioner
- Recognised Networking qualification such as Cisco CCNA.
- Cyber Security related qualification/cert or 5 years' experience working on network security platform
- Advanced experience as a network engineer (LAN/WAN &Wi-Fi) gained while working in a complex enterprise environment.
- Deep understanding of key protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS)
- Network Security Enterprise Firewalls, VPNs, and NAC solutions.
- Wireless Networking WLAN design, RF surveys, troubleshooting and performance tuning
- An understanding of Cybersecurity readiness, response, and recovery, including:
- o ISO/IEC 27001
- Experience in supporting Cisco access layer
- Experience in supporting Extreme access layer and Extreme Wi Fi
- Experience in Checkpoint Firewall's
- Experience in administering of Forescout NAC
- Experience of working with a large healthcare or public sector organisation.
- Understanding of DSPT/CAF requirements
- Working knowledge of other cloud providers e.g., AWS, Google.
- Experience of cloud networking and security, particularly Azure ExpressRoute, virtual WAN and Azure Firewall.
