A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced Nurse to join a busy and successful research delivery team within the NIHR/Clinical Research Facility at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. The NIHR/CRF is a dynamic early phase unit focused on experimental medicine, with a diverse portfolio that includes complex interventional commercial and academic studies.

The post holder will be a lead nurse responsible for the planning and implementation of clinical research trials. This role involves liaising with Principal Investigators and other members of the multidisciplinary team to manage and deliver trial protocols to ensure high quality data collection, whilst ensuring participant safety and welfare.

Main duties of the job

• Set up, coordinate, and deliver clinical trials, demonstrating a high level of organisation, coordination, and attention to detail to ensure the safe and efficient conduct of studies, in line with trial protocols, research governance, and regulatory requirements.
• Safely administer investigational medicinal products, which may include systemic anti cancer therapies (SACT), ensuring full compliance with Trust policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
• Deliver high quality, safe, and patient centred care, with a strong focus on enhancing patient experience throughout the research pathway.
• Possess excellent communication skills, problem solving and the ability to collaborate with internal and external teams effectively.
• Use I.T systems and extended software to facilitate the role.
• Incorporate a blend of research and clinical responsibilities that are patient focused.
• Work autonomously within the scope of the role, while also contributing effectively as a member of the wider research and clinical team.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a level 1 Registered Nurse, with considerable experience at Band 5 in an acute care setting. Applicants should demonstrate a clear willingness to undertake training for extended clinical roles including venepuncture, cannulation and administration of cytotoxic medications. Previous research experience is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications

• Registered level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC register
• Relevant degree or equivalent in nursing
• Health care management / leadership qualification.

Experience

• Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
• Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
• Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
• Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
• Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
• Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department
• Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.
