The postholder will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing professional clinical midwifery care to women during the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal stages without referral to a medical practitioner. They will ensure safe standards of care, act as advocates for clients, and support informed choice throughout the childbirth continuum.
Main Duties of the Job- Take full responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating midwifery care consistent with evidence-based practice
- Discuss options and support parents in making informed choices about:
- Birth plans
- Pain relief
- Infant feeding
- Baby care
- Return to work
- Family planning
- Provide guidance and support in the postnatal period
- Analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of care, modifying pathways as necessary
- Offer professional advice and support to parents and families
- Act as the client's advocate, empowering them to promote their own health and wellbeing
- Respect privacy and dignity, obtaining informed consent throughout the childbirth continuum
- Refer clients to senior midwives, obstetricians, physiotherapists, paediatricians, or other specialists when needs extend beyond scope of practice
- Registered Midwife with valid NMC registration
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development
- Experience in multidisciplinary collaboration
- Knowledge of specialist referral pathways
- £38,682-£46,580 per annum (Band 6)
