Job Description

We are looking for a compassionate and enthusiastic Nurse to oversee the healthcare provision for children and young people aged 2-19 with severe, profound, and multiple learning and physical difficulties.

In this rewarding role, you will offer expert training, guidance, and support to school staff, parents, and carers, ensuring the best possible care for every child.

You will be part of a team supporting the senior school nurse and assistant practitioner, helping to create a collaborative, nurturing environment where everyone can thrive.

Base

This role is based at Walton Leigh School in Walton on Thames.

Main duties of the job

Deliver safe, high quality, child centred nursing care, including medication oversight, tracheostomy and PEG care, and emergency response.

Assess health needs, make informed clinical decisions, and contribute to safeguarding and multi agency work.

Communicate effectively with children, families, and professionals, using alternative communication methods where needed.

Develop and review personalised care plans and empower families in managing health needs.

Maintain accurate, confidential records and ensure safe use of medical equipment.

Provide training, supervision, and mentorship to school staff and students.

Support service improvement through audit, evaluation, and evidence based practice.

Work autonomously while upholding high professional standards across the school nursing service.

Ideal Candidate
  • RGN and/or RSCN with child and/or learning disability experience
  • Experience of working with children with additional needs
  • Good working knowledge of Child Protection policy & procedures
  • Clear understanding of community health services
  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Able to work autonomously & prioritise own work effectively
  • Experience of working with children with complex health needs
  • Previous working experience in a special school setting
  • Experience of initiating & participating in clinical audits

Other requirements: The post holder must be a car driver with a valid driving licence.
