We have permanent vacancies as part of the Oxford Heart Centre expansion within our Cardiothoracic theatres. The work is predominantly in the Theatre with some clinical work in the Cardiac Angiography suite.

Main duties of the job

When working within cardiothoracic theatres, you have the opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, achieving good outcomes with world innovative procedures such as Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve and Complex Aortic Surgery.

Provide an excellent peri operative service by delivering compassionate care whilst the patients are in the peri operative environment.

Monitor stock levels, order and rotate stocks if necessary.

Asses, plan and deliver care. Implement and evaluate care plans as appropriate for the surgical requirements and the patient's condition.

Maintain appropriate EPR documentation and theatre records. Always work in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through person centred care principles.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Act as a patient advocate during the peri operative period of care.

Responsible for anticipating and providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team.

Follow codes of Professional Practice, providing high quality and safe care to patients undergoing procedures within the perioperative environment.

Work alongside the surgeon in caring for patients by anticipating the requirements of the surgical team and responding effectively.

Prepare the necessary instruments and equipment for operations; responsible for surgical instruments, equipment, swabs, needles and sundries.

Maintain appropriate EPR documents and theatre records, ensuring the peri operative documents and patient log book are completed.

Ensure the monitoring of stock levels, ordering and rotation of stocks minimise items expiring and improve theatre efficiency.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Registered RN NMC or ODP HCPC registration.
  • Good communication skills, ability to work in a team, self awareness and awareness of escalation process in incident reporting.
  • Surgical scrubbing experience.
  • Involvement in change management; ability to act as a resource to junior staff and prioritize.
  • Evidence of practical experience within a multi disciplinary team. Knowledge of NHS policies and ability to build and expand on current clinical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize own workload, instruct and direct junior staff; developing leadership skills.
  • Potential to facilitate and participate in research/benchmark and audit programmes.
Salary and closing date

Salary £31,049 - £37,796 per annum pro rota. Closing 30/10/:59.
