We are looking for a Community Dietitian to join a dynamic, friendly team focused on patient care. There may be opportunities to work across other Bromley Healthcare Dietetics services to support career development.

Main duties of the jobThe Adult Community Dietitian will support the Adult Community Team for Bromley in providing a coordinated Nutrition and Dietetic service. The service supports patients predominantly for home enteral feeding as well as management of other nutritional issues such as malnutrition, irritable bowel syndrome, raised lipids, Coeliac disease, Inflammatory bowel disease and nutritional deficiencies. This includes support, assessment and ongoing reviews.
- Manage a clinical caseload within the Adult Community Dietetic Service.
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge in Dietetics, underpinned by current evidence-based practice.
- Autonomously provide expert nutritional and dietetic advice to patients referred to the service under the care of GPs and other healthcare professionals.
- Work as an independent practitioner, prioritising and managing patient caseloads. Settings include patients' homes, care homes and clinics across the borough (including mental health and learning disabilities care homes).
- Communicate nutritional information to patients, families and carers in one-to-one or group formats and adapt presentations to varied learning abilities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities- Advise on safe and appropriate use of over-the-counter products (vitamins, minerals, specialist dietary products).
- Advise on prescribing nutritional supplements listed as ACBS, vitamins and minerals.
- Collaborate with Local Medicines Management Team and Prescribing Support Dietitians to support local prescribing policy.
- Make recommendations to medical practitioners for diagnostic tests (e.g., blood tests).
- Communicate sensitively with patients/residents and care staff to meet nutritional goals.
- Provide clinical advice and support to dietetic assistants and identify training needs.
- Be flexible to cover workload of other dietitians during leave when required.
- Deliver and evaluate group education and support for patients, families and carers on nutrition and dietetic issues.
- Ensure assessments and advice are appropriate to patients' knowledge, including social, cultural and religious needs.
- Develop and evaluate written resources to support nutrition interventions and teaching.
- Provide a broad range of nutrition and dietetic advice for adults and carers to meet varying needs.
- Undertake comprehensive dietetic assessments, including non-verbal or limited-communication patients, using interview skills, biochemistry interpretation, nutrition calculation and anthropometry.
- Make independent clinical judgements and diagnoses based on assessments where access to other professionals is not immediately available.
- Evaluate outcomes and adjust care plans to achieve goals.
- HCPC Registration as a Dietitian
- Registered member of British Dietetic Association (BDA)
- Competent in IT including electronic patient records
- Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, Internet and e-mail
- Experience of using EMIS
- Advanced IT skills including Excel and Access
- Able to use dietary analysis programmes
- Good interpersonal skills
- Successful completion of all clinical placements
- Experience supervising and training student dietitians
- Experience delivering training programmes for health professionals and clients
- Experience working in a community setting
- Experience in home enteral feeding
- Ability to work independently with supervision from Senior Clinicians
- Clinically competent to give specialist advice and counselling to support behaviour change in adults and carers
- Use clinical judgement in assessing complex information within a multidisciplinary team
- Good negotiation, persuasion, motivation and counselling skills
- Knowledge of relevant national guidelines
- Recognise limits of own authority and seek professional support when needed
- Confident in the use of equipment for accurate anthropometry
- Car driver and current valid driving license
- Understanding of professional issues and ethics in practice
- Ability to work with patients with complex communication needs
- Ability to interpret clinical information and develop guidelines/protocols
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
- Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics
- Post-registration course for clinical supervisory skills or equivalent supervising students
