Riverfly Monitoring is a volunteer led initiative that tracks the health of rivers by observing populations of pollution sensitive invertebrates.
What are riverflies?
Riverflies are small invertebrates like mayflies, caddisflies, and stoneflies. These riverflies are crucial indicators of river health because they are highly sensitive to changes in water quality.
Why are they important?
By monitoring their populations, we can detect pollution early and take action to protect our precious freshwater ecosystems.
How can you help?
Volunteers will be trained in how to collect invertebrate samples, identify key indicator species and report findings using a simple online portal. Equipment and ongoing support will be provided.
