Sompo has a unique opportunity for a AVP, Underwriter in our Cargo team in our Aviation, Energy & Marine business.

With a wealth of experience across all key sectors of the Marine market, our Marine team (made up of Hull, Cargo and Liability) offers a range of insurance solutions for Marine Insureds.

Our London based team underwrites complex and diverse risks across the globe in a pragmatic and consistent way and looks to forge long-term and sustainable partnerships. Backed by Sompo's exceptional financial strength, we offer significant capacity, with a dedicated claims handling capability and underwrite business through our company platforms in the UK and Continental Europe.

What you'll be doing:

• Assist Class Underwriter in implementing the Underwriting strategy for Marine Cargo
• Assist Underwriting team in maintaining and growing the existing portfolio.
• Develop and manage tripartite relationships with brokers and clients.
• Provide technical input into future product development.
• Full and thorough underwriting of all accounts in accordance with underwriting guidelines and
• Training and development of staff at all levels.

What you'll bring:

• A minimum of 8 years relevant underwriting experience
• Experience and technical knowledge of underwriting marine cargo
• Strong problem solving and decision making abilities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong analytical skills
• Ability to work effectively in a pressured environment
• Ability to organise efficiently
