Our client, a leading Dutch shipbuilder in the defence industry, is looking for a skilled Automation Engineer to join the team behind the development of mission-critical naval vessels. You will be responsible for engineering complex automation systems that control and monitor everything from propulsion to strategic defence systems - ensuring performance, safety, and compliance under extreme conditions.

What you'll do

As Automation Engineer, you'll design, integrate, and validate cutting-edge automation systems in a model-based engineering environment. From concept to commissioning, your work directly supports the operational excellence of modern naval fleets.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing functional descriptions, architecture drawings, and system documentation for automated onboard systems.
  • Specifying automation hardware and software, including PLC and SCADA-based controls.
  • Writing and executing test and validation plans (virtual and real-world): FAT, HAT, SAT.
  • Managing input from vendors and subcontractors, reviewing and integrating their designs.
  • Supporting the proposal phase with conceptual automation designs.
  • Developing internal engineering standards and commissioning guidelines.
  • Providing technical support throughout build, integration, and commissioning phases.

What you bring

You're a system thinker who thrives in complex technical environments and understands how automation impacts real-world operations.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience with complex automation systems (PLC/SCADA), preferably in maritime, offshore, or aerospace sectors.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary project teams involving suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Familiarity with MBSE and the V-model.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Technical Automation, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
  • Fluent in English.
  • EU nationality and passport are mandatory due to security clearance requirements.
  • Able to pass pre-employment security screening.
