Automation Controls Engineer

An opportunity is available for an experienced Automation Engineer to support the design, commissioning, and installation of special purpose machinery.
The role requires strong experience with PLC/HMI control systems, particularly Siemens S7 and/or Rockwell ControlLogix. Experience with servo drives and motion control would be beneficial.
You will work across the full machine life cycle, from electrical design and PLC development through to commissioning and customer installation, collaborating with internal teams and supporting end users. Occasional international travel will be required to assist with installations and upgrade projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical control systems and PLC software.
• Support machine builds through commissioning and FAT testing.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation and as-built drawings.
• Assist with engineering queries and manufacturing support.
• Carry out installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting at customer sites globally (approx. 4-5 trips per year).

Key Skills & Experience Essential

• Electrical control system design for special purpose machinery.
• PLC programming (Siemens and/or Allen-Bradley).
• Experience with FAT commissioning.
• Knowledge of machine safety standards.
• Experience producing BOMs and supporting MRP processes.
• Ability to work with customers/end users to define system requirements.

Desirable

• Motion control systems (eg Sinamics, Kinetix).
• Studio 5000/CompactLogix experience.
• Safety circuit design and SIL assessments.
• Machine vision system integration.
