Are you a senior hydrology expert with a passion for renewable energy and peatland environments? We're partnering with a globally respected environmental consultancy to recruit an Associate Technical Director - Hydrology. This firm supports projects across the UK and internationally, with over 500 staff worldwide, while maintaining the collaborative, people-first ethos of a boutique consultancy.

About the Team


The Consenting & Environment team provides end-to-end planning and environmental services across the lifecycle of renewable energy projects. From site identification and feasibility to scoping, EIA, and post-consent support, the team combines expert project managers, planners, and technical specialists to deliver thoughtful, effective solutions.

Your Role


As Associate Technical Director, you will:



  • Provide strategic and technical leadership on hydrology and peatland-related aspects of major onshore renewable projects.

  • Guide a team of hydrologists, ensuring technical quality, mentoring, and professional development.

  • Produce, review, and sign off technical deliverables including Peat Management Plans, EIA chapters, Private Water Supply Risk Assessments (PWSRAs), and Water Monitoring Plans.

  • Oversee multiple complex projects-managing client relationships, survey logistics, and budgets.

  • Stay current with regulatory and policy developments relevant to hydrology and renewables.

  • Represent the company in client meetings, design workshops, and stakeholder consultations.

  • Support business development by identifying new opportunities and contributing to tenders and bids.

What We're Looking For



  • A degree in hydrology, environmental science, or a closely related field.

  • Significant consultancy experience within the renewable energy sector.

  • Deep, demonstrable expertise in peatland environments-including peat depth and stability surveys, risk assessments, and peatland management-is essential.

  • Proven track record in team leadership, client engagement, and project delivery.

  • Strong understanding of UK environmental legislation and planning policy.

  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
