Job Description

We are looking for an Associate Scientist to join our multidisciplinary and dynamic team. This position represents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to contribute to the translation of an early-stage oncolytic virus product through clinical development. The successful applicant will be working in a fast-paced environment and will contribute to strategic research and development goals.

The candidate must be a proactive, organised individual with hands on wet lab experience. We are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills, can interact with a diverse group of scientific disciplines and is happy to jump in when required in what is an exciting work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Execution of experiments, collating, analysing and presenting data from a variety of sources.
  • Routine laboratory experiments including, but not limited to:
  • Maintenance of cell culture.
  • Processing of primary tumour material.
  • DNA and RNA extraction.
  • Flow cytometry.
  • Ensuring virus batch quality control.
  • Supporting histology experiments (IF/IHC).
  • Detailed recording of experiment details and processes.
  • Supporting a team of scientists working with various human tumour models, to include the maintenance of quality sample archiving systems.
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the laboratory.
We're looking for someone that has:
  • A BSc and/or MSc degree in a relevant discipline (such as Virology, Cancer Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology).
  • Hands on, independent wet lab experience conducted as part of or during degree or placement project.
  • Recent experience in at least two of the following: Cell culture, Primary tumour culture, Virology techniques (such as purification, plaque assays and TCID50), Molecular and/or Biochemical techniques (such as bacterial cell culture, cloning, PCR, ELISA and flow cytometry).
  • Strong IT skills (including proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and comfort using shared drives.
  • Adaptable.
It would be useful if you have:
  • Pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry placement experience.
  • Experience processing patient tumour samples.
  • Experience working with viruses.
  • Technical experience on qPCR, RNA/DNA extractions, and some cell-based assays.
  • Experience in IHC / IF.
  • Experience following SOPs.
  • Detail oriented and meticulous, with a dedication to performing high-quality science.
  • A willingness and propensity to take on responsibility.
  • High motivation for, and commitment to, research on anticancer therapies and drug discovery.
