Overview

A well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Gloucester is seeking an Associate Director (Civil Engineering) to lead the technical and commercial delivery of a portfolio of infrastructure and development projects across the South West, South Wales, and the wider UK. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineer looking to combine hands on technical expertise with team leadership, client engagement, and strategic input.

The Role
  • Leading the technical delivery of civil engineering projects across highways, drainage, and infrastructure
  • Ensuring design quality, compliance, and technical excellence across all stages
  • Overseeing project financial performance, fees, and resource planning
  • Acting as a senior point of contact for clients and key stakeholders
  • Managing, mentoring, and developing engineers and technicians
  • Reviewing and approving calculations, reports, and technical submissions
  • Contributing to business growth, work winning, and long term strategy
  • Remaining technically active while playing a key role in leadership, quality management, and consultancy performance
About You
  • 8+ years' post graduate experience within a UK civil engineering consultancy
  • Degree qualified (BEng / MEng) in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered (ICE) or operating at Chartered equivalent level
  • Strong background in highways, drainage, and civil infrastructure design
  • Experienced in adoption processes including Section 38, Section 278, Section 104, and Section 106
  • Proficient or knowledgeable in Civil 3D, MicroDrainage / InfoDrainage, and AutoCAD
  • Confident leading teams and managing complex projects
  • Strong commercial awareness and client facing capability
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience in client management, business development, or mentoring is highly advantageous
