Job Description
Overview

The role of Associate Postgraduate Dean for SAS Development is to work with and support the Local PG Dean and Systems Deans in leading the delivery of a range of functions aligned to the NHS England mandate. This role will coordinate and lead the implementation of SAS Development for London, working with the motivated London Medical Workforce Team.

Main duties

The successful candidate will be the clinical lead for the London SAS Development, chairing SAS Tutor meetings, providing leadership for the group and encouraging cooperation and the sharing of good practice.

Job responsibilities

The role will be 0.1 whole time equivalent per week (1 PA/ Session per week) and will be a secondment from the employing trust organisation. Secondment to 31st March 2027 in the first instance. Interviews are likely to take place on MS Teams near the end of April 2026. (Mat. Leave cover)

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Qualifications
  • Registered Medical Practitioner with a current license to practise
  • Applicants should be in a substantive role in NHS clinical practice
  • Applicants, regardless of professional background, must have a track record of professionalism in line with Good Medical Practice and compatible with appointment in a senior clinical educator role
  • Able to demonstrate the importance of SAS doctors as educators
Skills
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in parallel and prioritise tasks accordingly
  • Ability to critically appraise and problem solve whilst maintaining objectivity
  • Track record of influencing and motivating colleagues, particularly SAS doctors
Experience
  • Experience of supporting SAS doctor development within own trust and/or specialty
  • Knowledge of key strategic documents relevant to SAS doctor development
  • Knowledge of the NHS, its structures and processes, including an understanding of healthcare/multi-professional workforce matters
  • Current or previous experience as a SAS doctor
