We are hiring!
Our Built Environment team is consistently growing, with a mixture of clients across the public, private and third sectors - developers; housing associations; local authorities and government agencies on development and regeneration projects across the country as well as advising landowners on disposals (via options, promotion agreements, development agreements and joint ventures) and developers and landowners on renewable energy projects. The growth in each of these areas means we can offer the opportunity to work across multiple client types.
As this is the case, we are in the market for an Associate to join our team in Manchester. The successful candidate will have an appetite to learn, develop and thrive in the role, working alongside and learning from Legal 500 and Chambers recognised leading lawyers in the sector.
What does the role actually involve?- Providing advice on time and to a high standard of technical competence in a broad range of property development matters and providing exceptional client service
- Assisting senior members of the team with more complex projects and transactions
- Achieving budgeted hours and fees for the year as a minimum
- Undertaking legal research both as requested and on own initiative
- Undertaking any other duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post
- Actively and enthusiastically undertaking business development and marketing within the property development sector, including seeking out and attendance at networking events
- Ability to provide clear, concise and commercially relevant advice and solutions, explaining/advising succinctly on difficult and complex areas whilst winning their confidence and being aware of potential conflicts
- Excellent legal drafting skills
- Desire to maintain personal development and take advantage of training opportunities; keeping up to date with legal issues, law reports and journals together with legal developments and government policy within relevant sectors
- Good IT skills, at ease with digital dictation, electronic time recording and case management systems and some experience of AI tools (e.g. Avail) or willingness to use
As part of the Real Estate team, you'd be expected to have the following skills and experience:
- A team player with high levels of personal commitment and initiative, recording time promptly to meet financial goals with a good track record in achieving targets
- An effective communicator and negotiator able to establish and maintain harmonious and professional relationships with clients and colleagues
- Flexible, ambitious, focused, results oriented with a track record of involvement with business development and building client relationships
- Keen to develop over a period of time with a willingness and ability to learn
- Good organisational skills and experience of project management and delivering process efficiencies. Attention to detail tempered by a commercial approach, managing own time effectively whilst contributing to a positive team spirit
- Able to adopt a common sense/commercial approach with attention to detail
- Ability to work on own initiative whilst maintaining a positive team spirit at all times
- Willing to spend time if required in the firm's other offices
- Experience acting for landowners and/or developers (in the private or public sector) would be beneficial
