Job Description

We are working with a leading national law firm seeking an Employment Associate to join its growing Healthcare Employment team in Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity for a junior employment lawyer to develop their career within a highly regarded practice, advising healthcare clients on a broad range of employment matters with a strong focus on contentious work.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced employment lawyers on complex and interesting matters, gaining exposure to high-quality Employment Tribunal litigation and advisory work. This role offers the opportunity to build strong technical expertise, develop client relationships and progress within a supportive and collaborative team environment.

The Role
  • Handle a predominantly contentious employment caseload, advising healthcare clients on Employment Tribunal matters.
  • Prepare and manage Employment Tribunal claims from initial stages through to resolution, including drafting Claims, Responses, Lists of Issues, Witness Statements, Skeleton Arguments and settlement approval applications.
  • Provide advocacy support at Case Management Hearings and Preliminary Hearings.
  • Draft correspondence with Tribunals, opposing solicitors, ACAS and clients.
  • Advise clients on a broad range of employment issues alongside contentious matters.
  • Work closely with senior and junior lawyers across the Employment team on complex and sensitive employment matters.
  • Develop strong client relationships and provide commercially focused, practical advice.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of the healthcare employment practice.
Candidate Requirements
  • Qualified Solicitor with experience in employment law.
  • Experience handling Employment Tribunal litigation and contentious employment matters.
  • Strong knowledge of employment legislation and Tribunal procedures.
  • Excellent drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work to deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills with confidence dealing with clients, Tribunals and external parties.
  • Commercially minded with a proactive and collaborative approach.
  • Keen to develop within a growing and supportive employment practice.
