We invite applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor position in Geoenvironmental Engineering for Low-Carbon, Climate-Resilient Transport Infrastructure Systems, in the Built Environment and Sustainability research cluster within the School of Engineering, University of Warwick. The post is on the Research and Teaching Pathway.
The successful applicant will pursue research that makes fundamental contributions to climate adaptation, environmental monitoring, infrastructure resilience, and digital approaches to understanding environmental risk. This includes the application of Earth Observation, satellite-based monitoring, AI-assisted analysis, and geospatial methods to real-world engineering and environmental challenges. Equally important is the integration of these approaches with fundamental experimental and theoretical geomechanics, including advanced laboratory investigations of soil behaviour under changing climatic conditions, fracture and damage processes in geomaterials, and their representation through computational modelling. This integrated experimental-computational-field framework ensures that macro-scale observations are underpinned by rigorous physical understanding.
It also presents a significant opportunity for Warwick to develop a distinctive interdisciplinary capability linking civil engineering, geoscience, and digital environmental systems thereby strengthening its position in competitive UKRI and Horizon Europe programmes. Furthermore, it enables strong interdisciplinary collaboration across the University, particularly with Computer Science and Material Science, by integrating engineering geoscience with advanced digital technologies such as AI, machine learning, data analytics, and computer vision alongside experimental geomechanics, to support innovative, data-driven approaches to infrastructure and environmental resilience.
This post will contribute to the development of a cohesive research cluster spanning materials development, transport and infrastructure systems, and environmental resilience. This cluster will draw on both experimental and numerical modelling approaches, reinforcing and extending the strengths of existing academic staff. We are especially interested in candidates whose work can leverage or contribute to the School's collaborative, translational, and industrially engaged research environment.
Candidates will be expected to teach to the highest quality on undergraduate, postgraduate and Degree Apprenticeship programmes offered by the School of Engineering, including teaching in Transport Systems, Geospatial Technologies and Environmental Infrastructure Systems.
