About the RoleAssistant Manager - Payroll Client Services
We are looking to expand our UK Employer Services team. The role requires managing payroll delivery to a diverse range of clients, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with UK payroll legislation.
Responsibilities- Ensure day to day delivery of client payrolls within the team, meeting approved deadlines.
- Review payroll calculations, reports, reconciliation and outputs before submission.
- Act as the escalation point for client queries and address complex issues professionally and promptly.
- Maintain working knowledge of UK payroll legislation (PAYE, NIC, pensions, statutory payments, HMRC reporting).
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, automation, controls and documentation.
- Monitor client deadlines and team capacity, prioritising work and ensuring service commitments are met.
- Contribute to risk management by following internal quality procedures, maintaining records, and escalating issues.
- Supervise, coach and support 8 10 team members, providing constructive feedback and performance management.
- Act as a role model for professional standards, client service, accountability and collaboration.
- Support training and knowledge sharing across the payroll department, including updates to legislation, systems and processes.
- Contribute to team meetings, workflow planning and wider service line initiatives.
- Experience managing a UK payroll delivery team in a bureau, outsourcing, professional services or accountancy firm.
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, pensions and statutory payments.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain payroll matters clearly and professionally.
- Detail oriented, organised, able to manage competing deadlines.
- Ability to identify risks, raise issues, and propose practical solutions.
