Job Description
Part time Assistant Financial Accountant, 9 months Maternity cover, 24 hours per week
What you'll need to succeed
Fully qualified in AAT (or higher); candidates with equivalent experience may also be considered Solid understanding of Month-End processes, with confidence in accounting principles and journal entries Strong IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as Xero Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and efficiency, with a keen attention to detail Self-motivated with the ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines independently

Hays has partnered exclusively with a diverse organisation located just outside Telford to recruit an experienced Part time Assistant Financial Accountant. This is a fixed-term opportunity to cover a 9-month maternity leave, offering a chance to contribute to a thriving finance team within a forward-thinking business. The role is part time offering 24 hours per week
Your new role
You will work closely with the Finance Manager to support and improve financial operations across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Assist in enhancing month-end and year-end reporting processes with the Finance Manager
- Prepare reports, analyse transactions, and post necessary journals within agreed timelines
- Manage day-to-day cash flow activities
- Approve VAT returns prepared by the Accounts Assistant before submission
- Administer tax payments, including Income Tax, Inheritance Tax, Corporation Tax, and Capital Gains Tax
- Support budget preparation for each entity
- Contribute to financial re-forecasting based on updated projections
- Complete account reconciliations monthly
- Review and clear balance sheet control accounts, including payroll and inter-entity loans
- Resolve transactional queries related to coding and reconciliation
- Drive continuous improvement within your area
- Provide general assistance to the Finance Manager, including reporting, journal postings, financial analysis, and ad hoc project work
