Assistant Director of Nursing

We are hiring an Assistant Director of Nursing of our Nursing Home in Co Carlow.

Responsibilities

• Support the Person in Charge (PIC) in managing the nursing home's daily operations, staff, and overall organisation.
• Ensure high-quality, person-centred care in a professional and supportive environment.
• Act as the lead in the PIC's absence, carrying out responsibilities under the Health Act 2007 and HIQA standards.
• Provide clinical supervision, leadership, and mentorship to nursing and care teams.
• Maintain compliance with all regulations, best practices, and Sonas policies.
• Oversee safeguarding procedures and ensure all concerns are appropriately reported and managed.
• Manage staffing levels to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality care delivery.
• Support staff training and development, promoting continuous learning and improvement.
• Serve as a clinical resource, staying updated on nursing best practices.
• Ensure full compliance with health and safety policies and maintain a safe working environment.
• Be available to work day, night, and weekend shifts as required.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse with An Bord Altranais and an active PIN.
• Minimum of 6 years post-registration experience.
• At least 2 years' experience in a nursing home setting.
• Minimum of 2 years in a management role.
• Post-registration qualification in healthcare management, or willingness to complete.
• Qualification in Gerontology or Dementia Care is desirable.
• Up-to-date certifications in Infection Control, Manual/Resident Handling, Medication Management, Dementia, CPR, and Safeguarding (training can be provided).
• Strong leadership, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to motivate, guide, and support a high-performing team.
