Asset Wealth Management Operations - Investment Management Oversight Analyst - Dublin

Dublin, Co. Dublin, Ireland

Job Description

Goldman Sachs Fund Services Limited (GSAMFSL) acts as management company and global distributor for a range of UCITS and alternative investment funds. While portfolio management activities may be delegated to internal and external investment managers, GSAMFSL retains responsibility for the effective oversight of those arrangements. The Investment Management Oversight team provides independent monitoring and constructive challenge of portfolio management delegates, assessing performance, adherence to investment mandates and processes, key investment risks, delegate controls and compliance with applicable policies and regulatory expectations.

The Analyst will support the Investment Management Designated Person by reviewing quantitative and qualitative information, participating in delegate oversight meetings and due diligence reviews, identifying emerging issues, and tracking remediation through to closure. The role will help produce evidence-based reporting, escalation and recommendations for senior management, governance committees and the Board. It offers broad exposure to Portfolio Management, Trading, Investment Risk, Product Development, Legal, Compliance, Operations and other stakeholders across the GSAM business, including involvement in new product and material fund change assessments from an investment oversight perspective.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Analyse portfolio performance, risk indicators, investment guideline adherence and investment-process outcomes across the GS fund range
  • Perform periodic and thematic reviews of internal and external portfolio management delegates, including initial and ongoing due diligence
  • Assess investment performance and persistent underperformance, liquidity, leverage, concentration, derivatives and counterparty exposures, sustainability risk and relevant product commitments
  • Review matters relating to best execution, trading, valuation, securities financing, collateral arrangements, stressed portfolio conditions and investment breaches
  • Challenge delegates on exceptions, adverse trends, control weaknesses and the quality, completeness and timeliness of delegate reporting
  • Maintain delegate oversight plans, risk assessments, due diligence records, issues and actions, and track remediation through to closure
  • Prepare clear management information, conclusions and recommendations for the Investment Management Designated Person, senior management, governance committees and the Board
  • Identify, document and elevate material issues, including conflicts of interest arising from affiliated delegates and risks associated with sub-delegation arrangements
  • Review relevant policies, procedures and controls, assess their effectiveness and contribute to the continued development of the GSAMFSL investment oversight framework
  • Contribute to new product approvals and material fund change assessments by evaluating portfolio management arrangements, investment risks and oversight readiness
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • At least one year of experience in financial services, asset management, investment risk, compliance, audit, fund governance or a related control function
  • Ability to analyse performance, risk and portfolio data and translate complex information into concise governance reporting
  • Ability to build effective relationships and provide constructive challenge to delegates and senior stakeholders
  • Strong judgement, attention to detail and ability to identify issues, elevate concerns and follow remediation through to completion
  • Strong organisational, business writing, communication and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of UCITS and/or alternative investment fund structures and the role of a management company in overseeing delegated portfolio management
  • Understanding of investment products, portfolio-management concepts and relevant investment risks
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills; exposure to data visualisation, reporting automation or portfolio analytics tools would be beneficial
  • Experience in a control-focused role or front-office environment
  • CFA qualification, progress towards the qualification or willingness to undertake relevant professional development
