Ash Dieback Recorder
Posted 1 day 1 hour ago by WOODLAND TRUST
Volunteer with us to help to locate ash trees in Scotland that show signs of being tolerant to ash dieback. These records will be crucial for understanding if we have enough tolerant ash trees spread across the country to plan for future breeding or management programmes to safeguard this valuable species.
The role involves visiting woodlands where multiple ash trees are present and recording whether you see signs of ash dieback and any individual ash trees that seem to be tolerant to the disease using either an online or paper recording form.
This is a short-term role as dieback is easiest to recognise when the trees are in full leaf between early July and late September.
Guidance on how to recognise tolerant ash trees and the signs of ash dieback will be provided.
If you are already an Observatree volunteer, then there is no need to sign up for this new role. Records of tolerant ash trees submitted through Observatree will be shared with this project and contribute to our understanding of ash dieback.
For this role, you will need access to a phone, internet connection and appropriate clothing for the task and weather conditions, including sturdy footwear.
If you are under 18, please ensure you register for this role alongside a parent or guardian.
