Job Description

Position: Art Teacher / Vocational Subjects (Other subjects considered)

Location: Hartlepool, Durham

Hours: 40 hours per week, term time

Salary Details: Up to £35,000 per annum

The successful candidate will lead Art across the school and contribute to teaching in a complementary subject area such as Science or Maths, supporting a broad and engaging curriculum. Our curriculum is grounded in strong relationships, therapeutic practices, small class sizes and creative, adaptive teaching.

Who we are:

Cambian Hartlepool School is an independent, DfE-registered, co-educational day school, providing specialist education for up to 18 students, aged 11-17 years.

Hartlepool School and vocational centre exists in order to provide academic and learning opportunities for students who have previously struggled in mainstream schools. Students placed here will normally have recognised social, emotional and behavioural attributes (SEMH). The School provides a nurturing environment that is set up to meet the individual needs of these students.

Main Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Lead and co-ordinate teaching in Art and/or an additional subject.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers and professionals.
  • Recognise and raise student achievement through effective assessment.
  • Use trauma-informed and adaptive teaching strategies.
  • Promote communication, literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
  • Support social, emotional and behavioural development.
  • Undertake any reasonable duties required by the Headteacher.

Person Specification

  • Recognised subject-specific qualification.
  • Knowledge of Art and/or additional subject (Science or Maths advantageous).
  • Understanding of effective teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Driving licence (where minibus driving is required).
