Aquaculture Technician

Aquaculture Technician - Kilkenny,Ireland -€37,200-€43,200 + Shared Accommodation

The Job:

We are recruiting an Aquaculture Technician to join the established trout farming operation.This is a hands on role suited to someone with experience in aquaculture, fish farming, fisheries or a similar practical environment. You will support the day to day running of the site, maintaining high standards of fish welfare, production, biosecurity and site maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out daily fish husbandry, stock management, feeding and monitoring duties
  • Monitor fish health, behaviour, welfare and feed performance
  • Grade, handle, move and harvest fish as required
  • Monitor water quality, oxygen levels and other key production parameters
  • Maintain accurate production and stock records
  • Clean and maintain tanks, raceways, equipment and working areas
  • Carry out routine maintenance of pumps, pipework and other farm equipment
  • Follow biosecurity, fish welfare and health & safety procedures
  • Identify and report any fish health, water quality or equipment concerns
  • Support the wider team with general farm duties as required.
The Company:

An established commercial trout farming business, with a focus on fish welfare, production standards and quality throughout the farming operation.

The Candidate:
  • Previous experience in aquaculture, fish farming, fisheries or a similar practical agricultural environment is preferred
  • A qualification in aquaculture, fisheries, marine biology, agriculture or a related discipline would be advantageous
  • Strong practical and mechanical aptitude with an ability to work confidently around farm equipment
  • Good understanding of animal welfare, biosecurity and safe working practices
  • Comfortable working outdoors and undertaking physically active work
  • Reliable, organised and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Willing to work flexible hours when required around fish husbandry and production needs
  • Full driving licence preferred

  • Salary €37,000-€43,000 DOE

Candidate Requirements

All applicants must hold a minimum of an NVQ Level 2, Scottish NVQ Level 2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role applied for. Candidates must also have the legal right to work in the UK or hold a valid visa permitting employment.
