About the Role

As a Commis Chef working in one of our Partnership Hotels, you'll be part of our talented kitchen brigade, helping to provide a first class experience for Partners and guests of the hotel. You'll work under the direction of the Head/Sous Chef, but also have the opportunity to work independently, giving you responsibility and experience to develop in your career.

Location: The Odney Hotel, our Place by the River, could be for you. It is a beautiful and unique John Lewis Partnership owned hotel, set on 130 acres by the River Thames in Cookham, Berkshire. It offers both character and charm to our guests. The guests can stay in one of five beautiful houses on the site, or one of Airbnb's, each maintaining the period look of its time with access to the picturesque grounds including a private stretch of river, water gardens, a pool, and sports facilities. The main house, Lullebrook Manor and its grounds are thought to have been the inspiration for the classic novel The Wind in the Willows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assisting the Head Chef & Sous Chef to plan, produce and deliver the hotel food offer and agreed food presentation standards, in line with current trends and customer demand.
  • Working under pressure in a fast paced environment.
  • Meeting all legislative requirements for the catering environment, to include allergens.
  • Maintaining accurate records of equipment, cleaning schedules, temperature checks and following all food safety policies.
Essential skills/experience you'll need
  • Professional kitchen experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Great customer service.
  • Able to multitask and prioritise.
Desirable skills/experience you may have
  • City & Guilds 706 1 and 2 or NVQ equivalent.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2.
