APPOINTMENT OF GOVERNORS

University of Brighton

"This is an incredibly special place to study. Brighton is known for being different - and a place where everyone can belong. Our approach to your learning is hands-on, practical and focused on preparing you to make a real impact. Brighton is a place where people come to change the world, and I'm proud to be part of that". Professor Donna Whitehead, Vice Chancellor.

The University of Brighton is a vibrant community of 18,000 students and 2,150 educators and professional staff. We are a university that plays a crucial role in developing the professionals, the innovators and leaders of the future. Our research and teaching transforms lives and benefits communities worldwide, and our commitment to excellence is reflected in our rising university rankings, significant research impact, and strong graduate outcomes. Students are at the heart of all that we do, and our students are part of a dynamic, diverse and creative community that embraces partnership working and makes a positive difference to society.

We are now seeking new people to join our Board of Governors who bring a diversity of voice and experience, and who believe that education empowers people to make a difference in the world. The new Governors will help set, monitor and shape our strategic direction as we embark on our ambitious new ten-year strategy.

We are looking for individuals who have leaderships skills in finance and audit, either in professional practice or through complex strategic leadership. We are particularly keen to encourage applications from those with similar lived experience (or a clear understanding of the lived experience) of our diverse student community, and from mid-career individuals, as well as C-suite and NED leaders.

Ideal candidates will be able to bring thoughtful and mature contribution to board meetings and will be principled yet innovative. A willingness to be challenging but constructive and a strong strategic focus are essential. The time commitment for the Governor role is likely to be 10 to 12 days per annum, and the role is unremunerated, although reasonable expenses will be covered. The willingness to step up to chair a sub-committee in due course would be desirable.

We welcome applications from all candidates irrespective of age, pregnancy and maternity, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, or marital or civil partnership status.
