The Minister for Housing Local Government and Heritage invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Chairperson to the Heritage Council.

Candidates wishing to apply must demonstrate in their application evidence of experience at the appropriately senior level in the following areas:

1. Strategic Leadership

  • A person of significant standing, with the strategic leadership, governance experience and public service judgement,
  • Strong organisational leadership experience.

2. Corporate Governance

  • Strong understanding of corporate governance, financial oversight and public accountability.
  • Demonstrable experience of financial management, accountability and oversight in a public service or comparable governance environment of similar scale.

3. Communication Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to convey information clearly, professionally, and effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Skilled in active listening, interpersonal communication, collaboration, and building positive working relationships.
  • Representational Skill - experienced in acting as a professional ambassador, promoting organisational values, and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a clear appreciation of the role of heritage in national life, community development, education, local identity and public policy.
  • Experience of working with the local authority sector.

5. Collaboration and Team Leadership

  • Demonstrable ability to lead collaboratively through a period of significant transition.

6. Knowledge and Experience

  • Knowledge or experience in at least one or more of the following areas is essential:
  • heritage conservation and management;
  • environmental or heritage and cultural policy;
  • community engagement.
