Applied Scientist, Disputes Management

Our team faces a unique challenge: developing intelligent systems to process, analyze, and derive insights from massive financial datasets generated across Amazon's global operations. This includes millions of customer transactions, vendor payments, inventory movements, commission calculations, and tax collections across hundreds of jurisdictions worldwide.

As an Applied Scientist, you will:

1. Design and implement novel machine learning solutions for complex financial problems
2. Work with large-scale distributed systems and real-time data processing
3. Develop automated decision-making systems for financial workflows
4. Create scalable algorithms that balance accuracy, latency, and computational efficiency
5. Collaborate with software engineers to productionize ML models

The ideal candidate will have:

1. Experience in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data analysis
2. Experience with large-scale distributed systems and cloud computing
3. Proven track record of solving complex analytical problems
4. Excellence in scientific programming (Python, R, or similar)
5. Communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams
6. Passion for mentoring and technical leadership

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- PhD, or Master's degree and 5+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience developing and implementing deep learning algorithms, particularly with respect to computer vision algorithms
- Experience in professional software development
