Job Description
Main duties of the job 
- Registered Operating Department Practitioner / Anaesthetic Nurse
- Work independently in teams or with minimum supervision.
- Provide high quality individualised patient care at all times.
- Prepare the clinical environment for the operating list and anticipated workload.
- Participate in or lead all stages of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
- Assist with the safe transfer and positioning of patients onto the operating table.
- Act as scrubbed or circulating assistant as required; carry out checks and counts on swabs, needles, instruments and equipment.
- Ensure safe preparation of patients for operative procedures.
- Assist the anaesthetist with all anaesthetic procedures as per operational policies.
- Maintain equipment, stock levels, and clinical records in accordance with policy.
- Prepare and administer prescribed drugs; monitor effects.
- Provide peri operative patient care, including post resuscitation and immediate post operative care.
- Maintain high standards of conduct, adapt to other duties as needed, and use Trust computer systems.
- Participate in Third Tier On Call rota and report adverse incidents promptly.
- City and Guilds 752/NVQ Level 3/Dip HE in Operating Department Practice.
- Anaesthetic Nurses - ENB 182 or equivalent UK recognised qualification.
- Demonstrable knowledge of perioperative practice, including up to date AAGBI, NICE and DAS guidelines.
- Knowledge of normal and altered anatomy, physiology and common patient conditions.
- Understanding of pharmacology in perioperative care.
- Member of relevant professional bodies - HCPC or NMC (students will attain HCPC upon qualification).
- Evidence of post qualification experience and continuing professional development.
- Understanding of national guidance, CQC and its implications for practice.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to assess patients and develop high quality peri operative care plans.
- Recognise and act on changes in physiological parameters.
- Management and leadership skills; prioritise own workload and direct others.
- Work autonomously within national and local policy.
- Escalate issues to senior staff and remain calm under pressure.
- IT skills - use of e mail and keyboard skills.

Salary£33,677 to £40,996 per annum including HCAS, plus 15% retention & recruitment premiums.
