Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our friendly and progressive team at The Drayton Surgery. This is a fantastic opportunity to work across our two sites: our well-established main surgery in Drayton and our newly opened branch surgery in Highclere, Cosham.

You'll be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. The role offers flexibility with 4 to 8 sessions per week, making it ideal for those seeking a balanced working pattern.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide autonomous clinical care to patients, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prescribing
  • Manage acute and chronic conditions across all age groups
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
  • Contribute to service development and clinical leadership
About us

The Drayton Surgery is a well-regarded practice serving a diverse patient population in the north of Portsmouth. Our new branch at Highclere in Cosham expands our reach and enhances access to care. We pride ourselves on innovation, teamwork, and a strong commitment to patient wellbeing.

We have a broad patient demographic of circa 24,200 patients across 2 sites. We are well established within the Portsmouth North PCN with both the Clinical Director and Business Manager making up part of our team.

We are a group of 6 partners, 8 salaried GPs, 10 Nurse Practitioners seeing on the day patients, 8 General Practice Nurses and 6 HCAs, involved in the care of chronic diseases. On top of that we have a dedicated Prescribing team including Clinical Pharmacists.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Qualified Independent Nurse Prescriber on the NMC register
  • Meets NMC revalidation requirements in accordance with the NMC Revalidation booklet
  • Qualified triage nurse
  • Teaching qualification
  • ALS and PALS
Experience
  • Experience of practice within the four pillars
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Job plan that demonstrates advanced nursing practice and has equity with peers working at this level
  • Experience of prescribing for acute reasons
  • Ability to record accurate clinical notes
  • Ability to work within own scope of practice and understand when to refer to GPs
  • Experience of working as a practice nurse or community nurse
  • Knowledge of public health issues in the local area
  • Awareness of issues within the wider health arena
