An exciting opportunity has arisen within the General Surgery/Urology Directorate for a Administrator to work as part of the General surgery/Urology team. We are a strong, proactive team who welcome innovation and adaptability within the service.

The position is full time and may require cross site cover at Alexandra Hospital, Kidderminster Hospital, Worcester Royal Hospital. We also offer some flexibility with home working for a limited amount of days per week.

You'll be required to prioritise your own workload on a day-to day basis. Excellent IT and communication skills are essential for this role.

You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, must be flexible in approach, able to exercise initiative and demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism, being aware of the need for confidentiality and integrity. We require a strong communicator and dedicated team player.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should have excellent communication skills; possess excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, a flexible approach to duties and the ability to use their own initiative. Applicants will need to be able to prioritise their workload and work under pressure. Their responsibilities will be varied but will include dealing with patient queries, arranging standby day case admissions and inputting P codes onto the trust system.

Being comfortable and competent in dealing with incoming and outgoing phone calls, dealing with patient enquiries and liaising with both clinical and administrative colleagues to deliver information.

Ensuring P codes are recorded accurately on the patient's record and inputting P codes as and when appropriate following the trust guidelines. Requesting and inputting prior approval codes on patient's record.

Providing support to patients in booking appointments directly onto PAS as and when telephone queries are made, or if instructed by the divisional management team to do so, including sending out letters to patients.

Knowledge and understanding of RTT outpatient clinic outcome definitions in line with RTT validation processes to accurately detail the patient journey.

Providing additional support as and when the directorate requires.

Knowledge of the trust's internal systems: Bluespier, PAS, CLIP and WREN.

Supporting with validation of waiting lists.

Booking standby patients onto theatre lists.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Typewriting / word processing RSA Level 2 or equivalent
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent
  • AMSPAR qualification or working towards AMSPAR medical terminology qualification
Skills / Knowledge
  • Self reliant, ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Good telephone skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Knowledge of NHS systems
  • Working knowledge of Oasis / PAS / Bluespier / EZnotes

Experience
