Job Description
ACCS & Novice Training Programme Director - Anaesthetics

The Training Programme Director for ACCS and Novice Training will provide educational leadership and management for ACCS residents within the East of England School of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine, in accordance with NHSE standards and the requirements of the relevant curricula.

Job responsibilities
  • Organise, deliver and quality assure the ACCS programme, including resident progression, educational governance and support for residents needing additional input.
  • Lead the ACCS ARCP process and work closely with Stage 1 TPDs to ensure appropriate oversight of residents in the early stages of training.
  • Emphasise the importance and promote development of a quality learning environment for all learners.
  • Support Postgraduate Deans in meeting all NHSE statutory requirements.
  • Assist in development of quality processes complementary across the healthcare workforce.
  • Support the use of clinical skills training and simulation, stressing teamwork and human factors.
  • Oversee the Specialtys Regional Training Programme and advise Postgraduate Deans and Heads of School on trainee matters, recruitment, programme management, assessments, progression, rotations, support, remediation, career support and related work streams.
  • Provide reports to the Specialty Training Committee and School Board, and complete the annual school development plan.
  • Advise and support the Postgraduate Dean in educational and workforce development, including professional development of the educational faculty.
  • Support compliance with supervision and support requirements for trainees and learners.
  • Identify learning needs and support provision of educational appraisal, educator development and resources for faculty, trainees and learners.
  • Create and promote shared learning opportunities to enhance inter professional working across the School.
  • Ensure local intelligence processes inform quality management processes.
  • Engage with information systems such as trainee database and post establishments.
  • Contribute to workforce planning, ensuring clinical engagement with local and national workforce planning processes.
  • Develop educational programmes to support achievement of curriculum competencies, engaging with commissioning processes as required.
  • Identify and support implementation of alternative workforce solutions within the School.
  • Advise the Postgraduate Dean on commissioning and decommissioning activities.
  • Engage with financial business planning processes and associated School budgets; ensure compliance with procurement requirements.
Secondments

Person Specification Qualifications
  • Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, professional association and/or regulatory body.
  • Attendance at courses aimed at supporting educational development.
  • Primary clinical healthcare qualification.
  • Educational qualification such as postgraduate certificate, diploma or master's in medical education.
Experience
  • Considerable experience working with learners or doctors in training in an educational context.
  • Experience of clinical and educational leadership and innovation, including managing a multi professional team.
  • Understanding developments involving relevant Colleges/Faculties, professional bodies, NHS organisations and regulatory bodies.
  • Previous or current appointment as a leader in healthcare education.
  • Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education.
  • Understanding of current health, social care and education policy.
