Job Description

Ruminants Account Manager

Central & East, full time

The Account Manager reports directly to the Sales Manager and is responsible for selling the total feed business offering and achieving the budgeted volume and margin targets set by the business appropriate to their job grade.

Tasks and responsibilities:

The role of the Account Manager is to deliver budgeted sales volumes and margins across the total product offering while maintaining debt within company guidelines. Working with all sales-related departments and specialists, and reporting to the Sales Manager, the role is to deliver the company's strategic plan.

Selling Skills and Customer/Prospect Management

  • Develop individual customer and prospect relationships through the implementation of account management principles.
  • Establish the business needs of customers/prospects using the 7 steps of selling, then create a business proposal using the proposal document.
  • Update and maintain the company CRM system to identify sales opportunities, record market and competitor information, and manage the sales territory.

Business Development

  • Work closely with your line manager to identify opportunities to grow the total feed business and increase market share in all areas of the ruminant market.
  • Leverage product knowledge and collaborate with the Technical Manager and Product Managers to add value to our product offering and up-sell/range sell to all customers/prospects.
  • Produce an individual business plan to demonstrate market share growth and strategic direction.

Budget and Performance Achievements

  • Achieve budgeted volume and added value targets set by your line manager for compound and blend sales, in line with the sales remuneration plan.
  • Sell the total feed business offering, including straights and forage products.
  • Manage debtor days and meet the targets set by your line manager.

Training

  • Utilize all techniques for customer retention and business development learned within the company.
  • Stay informed about product developments through technical briefs, campaigns, and ongoing product knowledge.
  • Continuously improve selling skills, technical knowledge, and negotiation skills through discussions with your Sales/Technical Manager.

Administration/Documentation

  • Complete all company documentation accurately and promptly, including new account forms, credit/debit notes, and expenses.
  • Record and recommend resolutions for complaints within the agreed guidelines, aiming for timely resolution.
  • Negotiate all pricing within guidelines, submit prices via the Sales Information System (SIS), and ensure all contracts are completed and recorded.
  • Ensure all accounts trade within agreed terms and target direct debit payments to reduce debtor days.

Operational

  • Optimize delivery options, including increased 24-hour delivery, dual dates, and minimizing late orders.
  • Implement variable haulage rates to maximize operational efficiency and manage customer expectations.

Health and Safety

  • Work in a safety-first culture, providing a safe environment for all visitors and meeting legal requirements.
