An exciting new role has been established as part of the colposcopy service at Barnsley Hospital for a Colposcopy Nurse and Cervical Screening Provider Lead.
We are seeking an experienced BSCCP (British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology)-accredited Nurse Colposcopist to join the team here at Barnsley you will practice autonomously,undertaking diagnostic, therapeutic, and treatment procedures using advanced clinical judgment. You may also act as a Colposcopy trainer in line with BSCCP requirements.
The ideal candidate will bring recent clinical and management experience and be well-versed in the Quality Assurance standards essential for delivering exceptional care.
The role involves supporting and developing the colposcopy service to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate care. You will coordinate clinic capacity, work collaboratively with the Lead Consultant Colposcopist, and contribute to achieving clinical objectives.
The role will lead the Trusts cervical screening programme, working closely with clinicians in the service and the Screening Quality Assurance Service (SQAS).
This role will have dedicated administrative support.

Main duties of the jobTheir role is to oversee and co-ordinate the quality and effectiveness of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme (NHSCSP) services provided within the organisation. CSPLs also play a vital role in the audit of invasive cervical cancers and in ensuring that the individual elements of local programmes work together to provide the best possible service and outcomes for women.
The Colposcopy Service at Barnsley is highly regarded and provides a quality service for patients in Barnsley. The colposcopy team is made up of four consultants, one specialist and one colposcopy nurse specialist.
Key ResponsibilitiesLead and coordinate the colposcopy service, ensuring seamless and high-quality patient care
Maintain adherence to national standards for patient safety and clinical practice, including preparing and reporting on national audits and reports
Collaborate Colposcopy team to support the development and delivery of the cervical screening service, aligning with NHSEngland Service specifications
Oversee the effective and efficient operational management of the Colposcopy Service on a day-to-day basis, ensuring smooth service delivery

Person Specification Qualifications- Professional clinical knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by diploma level specialist training, management qualification or equivalent and experience.
- Specialist knowledge of health-related screening.
- Must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the NHSCSP pathways.
- Hold a NHSCSP approved CSPL training qualification
- Significant experience of clinical responsibility for screening services.
- Experience in Colposcopy treatment clinic.
- Experience in Gynaecology
- Experience of pathways in cancer, women's services, pathology and/or governance.
- Knowledge of the NHSCSP Audit of Invasive Cervical Cancers. Ability to demonstrate knowledge across disciplines.
- Aware of the guidance for managing NHS screening incidents and the process to follow and to be able to ensure all relevant staff are also aware.
- Experience of multi-disciplinary case discussions.
- Experience of ensuring that operational policies and quality management systems are implemented across the programme (in conjunction with clinical and operational leads
- Experience of clinical responsibility for cervical screening services.
- Experience in completing the audit of invasive cervical cancers.
- Experience in attending Meetings.
- Knowledge of Barnsley's cervical screening activity.
- Experience of the NHSCSP.
