Are you a dynamic and results-driven professional with a strong background in road freight sales? Ziegler UK is expanding its team and looking for a Business Development Manager (BDM) to play a key role in launching and growing our Road Freight Division at our Peterborough branch.
What You'll Do:As our BDM - Road Freight, you will help build a strong presence for our road logistics operations. This role is about more than just sales - it's about developing client relationships, driving growth, and delivering outstanding service. You'll be hands-on in every step, from prospecting new leads to operational execution.
- Develop and execute sales strategies for Ocean & Air freight services
- Build relationships with shippers, forwarders, and logistics partners
- Identify new business opportunities and expand market share
- Meet and exceed sales targets in a competitive industry
- Develop and grow a customer base within your assigned region
- Source your own leads and manage them via our in-house CRM
- Conduct telesales campaigns to identify and qualify potential clients
- Schedule and attend meetings (in-person or virtual) to build strong relationships
- Create, follow up, and convert quotations to meet and exceed sales targets
- Continuously identify opportunities to increase Gross Profit (GP) from both new and existing clients
- Maintain a high-quality pipeline full of opportunity
- Operate and manage accounts with professionalism and proactivity
- Provide weekly sales activity updates and reports
- Uphold excellent customer service and operational standards
- Keep detailed records of customer needs and feedback
- Maintain CRM and update sales documentation
- Ensure quotations, files, and profit reports are accurate
- Prepare for internal and external sales meetings
- Comply with all company policies, including health & safety and compliance
- At least 3 years of experience in freight sales (road preferred)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Confident, self-motivated, and resilient personality
- Target-driven with a passion for delivering customer-focused solutions
- Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Ambition to develop beyond the BDM role, with potential to lead a future sales team
