Post: Tobacco Control Practitioner

Please note: As this post is part-time, the salary will be pro-rata.

Permanent positions across NHS Lothian with roles in various locations. Salary: AfC Band 5. The Department of Public Health and Health Policy aims to improve and protect the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland.

The department is organised around Population Health and Health Protection. The postholders will work within a Population Health Team focusing on partnership, prevention, and inequalities.

Reducing the harms from smoking is a key priority for Scotland as we work towards a smokefree nation over the next decade. NHS Lothian is seeking a dynamic individual to join the Quit Your Way team and help improve performance in supporting people to quit smoking.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct smoking cessation services and provide support to individuals and groups wanting to quit smoking.
  • Engage a variety of partners and enhance outcomes through strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Influence the healthcare workforce and partner agencies to boost engagement with Quit Your Way services.
  • Work within an NHS Lothian Acute Mental Health setting to support the implementation of the smokefree policy.
  • Carry out project work within wards to enhance the delivery of smoking cessation support.
  • Contribute to the delivery of smoking cessation initiatives as part of the team.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Role is part of the Quit Your Way team with 0.6 WTE (22.2 hours of a full-time 37-hour post) within the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.
  • PVG Scheme membership/record is required; if not current for the regulatory group, an application to Disclosure Scotland will be needed before starting.
  • Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, appointment will be subject to PVG membership. Changes will be confirmed by the Hiring Manager or Recruitment Team. Details on these changes are available from Disclosure Scotland.
