SalaryStarting salary: £38,816 for a 39 hour week (incl. 20% unsocial) with options for 37 or 41 hours.
OverviewPrison officers protect the public and help make an impact on prisoners' lives. The role involves protecting the public, maintaining safety, working as part of a team, and engaging with prisoners in various capacities such as peacekeeping, counselling or teaching.
ResponsibilitiesYou will work various shifts (including weekends and public holidays), support your colleagues, maintain safety, build positive relationships with prisoners, and fulfil duties that may vary day to day.
Requirements- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Meet Civil Service nationality requirements.
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment, including eyesight and hearing tests.
- Be resident in the UK for the last 3 years if working in a category A high security prison.
- Meet minimum eyesight and hearing standards.
- Tattoos must not be offensive or intimidating; facial tattoos generally not acceptable.
- Travel to work may require a valid driving licence and own transport for rural locations.

- Annual salaries based on hours: £36,928 (37h), £38,816 (39h), £41,334 (41h).
- 25 days' annual holiday (30 after 10 years).
