Joining Our Team

The Youth Justice Worker will support the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in custody, providing day to day assistance and interventions as required.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure the security and safety of children and young people while providing day to day support in a custodial setting.
  • Conduct interventions when required, oversee and facilitate safe movement around the site, and provide supervision to ensure safety.
  • Identify and assess the complex needs of the children and young people you work with.
  • Collaborate with young people, families or carers to agree on interventions or referrals that support their needs.
  • Handle interventions when necessary, including de escalating situations, managing behavioural issues and applying conflict resolution techniques.
  • Approach work with respectful curiosity, balancing challenge and support to help young people reach their potential and stay safe.
  • Work closely with other professionals and organisations to collectively improve outcomes.
  • Exercise sound judgement, using evidence based approaches to inform practice and continuously evaluate effectiveness.
  • Participate in regular supervision with an experienced practitioner to reflect on and improve practice.

Eligibility and Requirements
  • Be at least 18 years old at the time of commencement.
  • Meet Civil Service nationality requirements and have the legal right to live and work in the UK.
  • Pass a medical and fitness assessment.
  • Meet the required eyesight standard in both eyes (with or without corrective lenses).
  • Have suitable hearing standards (no hearing aids).
Salary
  • 37 hours a week: £33,746 per year.
  • 39 hours a week: £35,875 per year.
  • 41 hours a week: £38,003 per year.
