Key Responsibilities- Communicating and influencing within the prison environment
- Managing a quality service for inmates and staff
- Providing care and support to prisoners
- Minimum age of 18 years at commencement of employment
- Must meet Civil Service nationality requirements
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment
- Meet the required eyesight standard in both eyes
- Maintain a suitable standard of hearing (without hearing aids) for safety reasons
- For safety reasons, must also meet a suitable standard of hearing as a training requirement
- For category A (high security) placement, must have resided in the UK for the last 3 years
- Tattoos, including visible ones, are permitted provided they are not offensive, discriminatory, violent or intimidating; facial tattoos are generally not acceptable unless for cultural, religious or medical reasons
- Initial application form submitted online
- Online test to assess basic judgement and numerical skills
- Online Assessment Centre (OAC) for selected candidates
- Successful OAC candidates invited for medical and fitness testing, including eyesight, hearing and basic health screening (blood pressure)
- Following a successful medical assessment, candidates are allocated to a vacancy and receive a job offer
- Offers are made on a merit list basis, with the highest scores receiving offers first; the merit list remains active for 12 months, after which candidates must re apply
The initial training follows a 37 hour week schedule. After training, you may choose to work 37, 39 or 41 hours per week.
Your annual salary will reflect your chosen hours:
- 37 hours/week: £33,746 a year
- 39 hours/week: £35,875 a year
- 41 hours/week: £38,003 a year
All salary figures include any additional allowances.
