Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a progressive farm business manager to take over the reins of an already successful business and take it to the next level.

The farm is just over 300 hectares in size, which is predominantly used by the 500-cow dairy unit, which operates a split block calving system and is producing 4 million litres of milk per year from both grazing and being fed a TMR during the winter months.

The other two main enterprises on the farm are a 500KW EWT wind turbine and a 250KW AD plant which uses slurry and purchased crops to produce electricity.

A team of 6 full-time contract workers and some relief staff are used to manage the whole operation.

The Farm Business Manager will be responsible for:

  • The team, their recruitment, training, and performance.
  • On-farm equipment and vehicles.
  • The significant contractor management for forage conservation for the dairy and AD plant, (8500 tonnes/year), the spreading of fertiliser and digestate and reseeding of grass.
  • Bottom line financial responsibility, starting with proposing the budget, for both enterprises based on a growing understanding of the detail required.
  • All aspects of health and safety and working within regulations and keeping of all records, for the dairy and the AD plant.
  • For the buying and selling and working with the farm administrator to produce the financial management accounts.
  • Reporting into the owners on a regular basis.

The suitable candidate will:

  • Be seeking a long-term position growing in scope and responsibility.
  • Enjoy managing and developing a team of staff who achieve exceptional results.
  • Be prepared to carry out any practical/technical role required of their staff and in most of these roles be capable of training the team members.
  • Have evidence of leading a high-performance team of people where the technical and business outcomes are the result of successful delegation of most/all tasks.
  • Be able to demonstrate that (s)he has operated a well-managed, profitable dairy herd, with cow grazing being a significant part of this experience.

There is also a lovely 5-bedroom farmhouse on the property, which comes as part of the package.
