Pay Rate: £40.13 per hour PAYE

Hours per week: 37 Monday - Friday, normal working hours

The role

To help ensure fair, safe trading across the city by enforcing Trading Standards legislation and carrying out statutory duties as a Weights & Measures Inspector. You will protect consumers, support businesses, and contribute to a safe trading environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver education, guidance and awareness campaigns to the public, businesses and educational establishments.
• Support, advise and train Enforcement Officers and trainees.
• Take and assess samples, interpret analytical results and use statutory powers to protect public health and safety.
• Manage your own caseload, maintain accurate records and produce clear technical reports.

Essential Requirements

• Diploma in Trading Standards (or legal equivalent).
• Practical experience across all areas of Trading Standards.
• Strong decision-making skills and the ability to work independently in challenging situations.
• Detailed knowledge of Trading Standards legislation, including weights and measures, food safety, fair trading and consumer safety.
• Good understanding of related regulatory frameworks and IT systems.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
