Job Title: Secondary Nurture Class Teacher

Location: New Barn School, Newbury, RG20 8HZ
Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum depending on experience ( not pro rata )
Hours: 40 hours per week Monday to Friday Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm Wednesday 8.30am - 5pm
Contract: Permanent Term Time Only
Start: January 2026

About the Role

You will lead a dedicated nurture group, delivering a curriculum that is engaging, meaningful, and shaped around the principles of nurture. Your work will help break down barriers to learning and ensure every child feels safe, valued, and empowered.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons using the school's curriculum and schemes of work.
  • Assess, monitor, record and report on pupil progress, using assessment meaningfully and accurately.
  • Adapt teaching to meet the diverse strengths and needs of pupils.
  • Set high expectations that motivate, challenge, and inspire learners.
  • Prepare pupils for external tests and ensure strong outcomes.
  • Demonstrate strong subject and curriculum knowledge.

Nurture Group Leadership

  • Lead learning for a group of pupils with primarily social, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Develop and champion nurture group principles:
    Understanding developmental learning; creating a safe base; nurturing self-esteem; valuing communication; recognising behaviour as communication; managing significant transitions.
  • Provide a structured, balanced timetable with academic learning, emotional support, and consistent routines.
  • Ensure all EHCP objectives are met and pupils make at least good progress.
  • Manage support staff, including timetabling and assessments.

Pastoral, Behaviour & Partnership Work

  • Build secure, trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers, and external agencies to support social, emotional and academic development.
  • Promote positive behaviour and attitudes to learning through consistent, supportive approaches.
  • Contribute to EHCP Reviews, pupil progress meetings, planning activities and written/oral assessments.

What You'll Bring

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Passion for supporting pupils with SEMH or additional learning needs
  • Creativity, resilience, and a calm, reflective teaching style
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • A deep belief in the power of education to change lives

We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications.

You'll work 80% of your contractual hours for 100% of your pay, giving you more time to do the things that make you happy. 4DWW is subject to successful completion of probation and is not a contractual benefit
